Founded in 1972, Manchaca Village Veterinary Care (MVVC) is one of the most established and respected animal hospitals in South Austin. MVVC sits on Austin's southmost border at Manchaca Road and FM 1626, serving a broad spectrum of clients from South Austin, Manchaca, Buda and San Leanna.

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN, TEAM LEAD
Full Time (Minimum 5 years experience)

Are you an experienced vet tech that's interested in a management role? Looking for an opportunity to grow while remaining in the field you love?

Our office in far south Austin seeks a full time, experienced vet tech who is looking for a solid career opportunity alongside a compassionate team of professionals at our growing small animal practice. Part of your job as Team Lead will be to fulfill a veterinary technician's duties, and a part will be to manage a staff of techs, assistants and kennel workers.

The Team Lead reports to the Practice Manager and Owners, and is a key component of the daily operation of the hospital. The Team Lead leads by example, thinks proactively, works in harmony with practice philosophy and core values, ensures protocols are being met, is an integral component of staff reviews, provides feedback to upper management, and acts as a liaison between the staff and upper management.

Core Technician Requirements:

  • Administration of anesthesia, intubation, surgical preparation, patient monitoring and recovery.
  • Dental cleaning including scaling, sub-gingival curettage, polishing and probing.
  • Blood draw, IV catheter placement
  • Running routine lab work including CBC's, chemistries, urinalysis and others
  • Client relation skills including answering general pet care questions, reviewing & making recommendations regarding annual vaccinations according to hospital protocols, and relaying general discharge instructions.
  • Physically capable of lifting and restraining large dogs. (We do have lift tables to assist with lifting.)
  • Good animal handling and restraint for both dogs and cats.
  • Clear, positive communications skills both oral and written.
  • Comfortable with computers and electronic equipment
  • Familiar with vet clinic settings, flow and dynamics
  • Licensed techs and/or bilingual a plus but not required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience and bilingual preferred but not required.

Team Lead Requirements:

  • Oversee quality control of techs, kennel workers and tech assistants
  • Ensure company protocols are followed
  • Assist in review process
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management
  • Attend occasional management meetings to offer feedback
  • Assist in planning, marketing, quality improvement
  • Work with office manager on issues requiring discipline
  • Oversee training
  • Support staff and look out for their welfare
  • Seek responsibility and take accountability for outcomes within department

SURGICAL OR GENERAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

CLIENT SERVICE SPECIALIST
Full Time and Part Time

We are looking for receptionists to join our growing team. The ideal candidates must have great communication skills, be friendly, patient, professional, enthusiastic, self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task.

Requirements:

  • Answering a multi-line phone system
  • Greeting clients and patients in a clear, confident and respectful manner
  • Scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Checking patients in and out
  • Collecting fees, processing end-of-day reports and balancing, as well as other clerical duties. 
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, email communications, and web-based software systems.
  • A working knowledge of Infinity vet software a plus (but we will train if not). 
  • Attention to detail and adherence to protocol and procedures
  • Bi-lingual a plus but not required.

KENNEL ASSISTANT / ANIMAL HANDLER
Part Time

We are looking for a part-time KENNEL ASSISTANT to join our growing team. The ideal candidate must be diligent, friendly, enthusiastic, self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task.

Requirements:

  • Cleaning of cat and dog cages, scrubbing kennels.
  • Feeding and walking boarded pets.
  • Washing boarded pets and nail trimming.
  • Keeping accommodations sanitary, maintaining grounds.
  • Assisting doctors and technicians with lifting large dogs and handling of pets during exams. 
  • Janitorial duties including vacuuming and mopping.
  • Monitoring boarded pets.
  • Changing outdoor marquee sign messaging.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to protocol and procedures.

This is a great experience for pre-vet students and future technicians. Must be dependable and in good physical condition. Job entails lifting dogs up to 60 pounds, being on your feet for hours at a time, frequent walking, stooping and crouching, handling large and/or excited animals, withstanding inclement weather for short periods of time, and flexibility to work holidays. Kennel experience a plus.
